We are currently seeking a Project Manager/Estimator for our Saskatchewan/Manitoba Operations based in Regina SK. Responsibilities include estimating the costs of mechanical industrial insulation, fire-stopping, HVAC, asbestos abatement, siding and decking, plant maintenance and other related services. This position also includes project management of new construction and maintenance contracts, ensuring profitability and customer satisfaction are achieved. The position reports directly to the General Manager, indirect to Vice-President Operations.
The Position
- Contact and solicitation of tender packages from clients
- Review of tender documentation including instructions to bidders, specifications, and terms & conditions
- Accurate determination and quantification of the project scope of work from orthographic / isometric drawings, specifications, and other tender documentation
- Prepare and distribute detailed requests for quotation (RFQ’s) based on drawings, specifications and other documentation to suppliers, vendors and sub-contractors as required
- Obtain pricing from suppliers, vendors & sub-contractors
- Determine project costs by a variety of computer applications
- Accurate calculation of estimated direct project costs, overhead, profit margin and risk assessment
- Preparation and review of actual bid submissions, ensuring all required documentation and information is included and complete. This includes completion all communication and letter writing, generation of all schedules, and completion of all tender forms, tables, etc.
- Assist in contract negotiations
- Identify client needs and plan project delivery systems to achieve client satisfaction
- Bill of material (BOM) generation and material procurement
- Plan, organize, and schedule projects, prepare project punch lists including identifying all action items, materials/supplies required, and labor, etc. Prioritize items and assign responsibilities to individuals
- Accurately analyze requirements of job to ensure sufficient manpower; materials and equipment are on hand without overestimating needs and incurring unnecessary costs
- Labour and supervision assignment
- Co-ordinate with other Project Managers and Field Supervisors to ensure divisional synergies are optimized
- Ensure all Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) policies, legislation, regulations and standards are adhered to and enforced
- Periodic travel or site assignments throughout Western Canada to field locations may be required
- Assist in business development by actively investigating and pursuing project leads
- Build and maintain good business relationships with customers, clients and suppliers
- Compile, analyze, and provide input on data as required for financial reporting requirements
- Perform any other duties or responsibilities consistent with the position

- Ability to read blueprints and drawings and define the scope of work and project specifications
- Ability to quantify materials and supplies from blueprints and drawings. Must be able to determine work priorities, sequence of how the project is built and how sub-trades work together
- Ability to interpret and understand contract terms and conditions and their implications. Must be able to deal with great quantities and diverse detailed information and be able to maintain mental data pertinent to the various projects simultaneously
- Health and safety knowledge and experience
- Mediation and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to correctly identify and adjust priorities, arranging scheduling, flow and timing of activities, and to organize, monitor and attend to details
Required Education
- Degree, diploma, or certificate in Mechanical or Construction Engineering Technology or equivalent from an accredited post-secondary institution. Or 2 to 5 years progressive experience in an estimating role and project management, preferably in an industrial construction environment
- Technical training in project management, drafting and engineering design, trade certificates, and/or field experience are definite assets
